Wyse Partners with the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago to Reduce Patient Risks and Costs
Health Care Data Management and HIPAA Compliance Revolutionized by Thin Computing
SAN JOSE, Calif. –
14/03/2006 -
Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, announced today that the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago (UIMCC) has more than 1,500 Wyse thin clients deployed throughout their hospital system, which includes 22 clinics and nine remote clinics. Most patient information is now stored and accessed from the medical center's centralized data centers. Physicians have the ability to read current patient information within seconds without having to locate a paper chart or cross reference another PCs data.
"When you walk into our nursing units," said Karen Engelhardt, RN, MBA, Director of Production Operations at UIMCC, "there isn't an available computer. We have 3,000 Medical Center employees and 7,000 users of clinical systems who need access." To ensure fast access and to protect patient information, UIMCC adopted a thin-computing solution. Users log-in to use applications and information based on who they are and their role in the system.
The solution, which includes Citrix Presentation Server, makes up-to-date information more accessible to employees at the hospital, in nearby clinics and remotely.
"Centralizing information access within the IT infrastructure simplifies the lives of the staff, reduces cost and increases security and reliability," said Tarkan Maner, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Wyse. "With no locally stored data to manage, thin computing not only provides health care organizations with cost savings, but HIPAA compliance as well."
"The Wyse thin clients alleviate potential data security concerns. They provide peace of mind. If I had all thin clients, I wouldnt have to worry about hard drive disposal issues," Engelhardt said.
